About this cause

Hunger isn't seasonal, which is why our year-round delivery of a nourishing breakfast to Brisbane's homeless is so important.

Each morning, thanks to many volunteers the ECB van is stocked with sandwiches, fruit and warm beverages. The service ensures up to 100 homeless and marginalised people across four specific CBD locations receive a nutritious meal and a welcoming presence.

The organisation was established in 1970 by Louisa Toogood, a former Anglican nun, who saw a need to minister to the homeless.

Since its inception, the organisation has remained true to Louisa's vision and continues to uphold the objectives outlined in its constitution:

  • To provide hot drink and food every morning, free of charge, to any needy person and to provide any other relief where possible.
  • To make use and use any opportunity to inform the community about the plight of homeless and needy people, which may directly or indirectly further the objectives of the association.
