The residents of Wagina (Wa-gee-na) Island are seriously concerned about the construction of a bauxite mine which will cover 60% of the island, threatening their health, water resources, subsistence farming and seaweed farms.

EDO NSW is seeking urgent funds to provide legal assistance to the Public Solicitor's Office (PSO) of the Solomon Islands, which is assisting four residents of Wagina Island to defend a civil claim of trespass brought by Solomon Bauxite Limited (SBL) and to pursue their appeal case. 

EDO NSW has engaged a Sydney barrister with expertise in civil litigation in the South Pacific who has been supporting the PSO. The barrister is willing and able to travel to Honiara in the Solomon Islands to assist in the civil trespass trial.

We need to raise $15,000 to cover the cost of this work.  Please help us provide travel assistance and expert legal support to these vulnerable but determined people.
