International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebrates LGBTIQ people globally, and raise awareness for the work still needed.
30 years ago - on May 17, 1990 - the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD 10.
In Australia, more than 1,000 workplaces and organisations get involved on the day, going rainbow and hosting activities that raise funds to support LGBTIQ youth.
The funds raised during IDAHOBIT go towards programs at the Minus18 Foundation that enable LGBTIQ youth to flourish, including:
Life Affirming Events
Making friends and having safe community builds confidence and improves mental health. Minus18 host free youth events across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide to give young people a space to truly be themselves.
WORKSHOPS
Providing schools and community groups access to training can often be prohibited by cost. Proceeds from working with Minus18 provide education to schools and community groups right across Australia.
PEER SUPPORT
Minus18 offer peer support through articles, interviews and video content, so young people are able to access free help online no matter what part of Australia they’re from – or the support they have from their school or families.
